Friday night, Paula Abdul kicked off LA Pride in West Hollywood with a free Opening Ceremony concert. I was luckily enough to be invited to cover the event. And it was to die for! Paula told the crowd of nearly 20,000, she “always wanted to be asked to perform at Pride.” And we were glad she was because her performance was everything and a bag of chips.

Paula Abdul’s career and life was almost put to a halt after a near fatal plane crash during her 1992 Spellbound tour. For seven years, Paula suffered chronic pain and underwent 15 back surgeries before landing at the judges table on American Idol. Her often loopy behavior sparked rumors of drug and alcohol abuse but it was not so. She was suffering from the side effects of strong pain medication. Paula addressed her struggle with the audience on Friday night. Her comeback; a testament of perseverance.

Paula sang an array of greatest hits…“Straight Up,” “Rush Rush,” “Cold Hearted,” “Opposites Attract,” “Forever Your Girl” and danced for over 60 minutes. She replicated her recent Billboard Music Awards “leap of faith” and OMG my jaw hit the floor (watch the video)! Paula proved she is BACK and ready to hit the ground running when she takes the stage at her Vegas residency at the Flamingo, August 13th.
