It’s rare for a music artist to completely re-invent their sound successfully. Singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson strays from her roots venturing into the “upside down” world of 80s synth-pop on her upcoming release “Stranger Songs,” due out June, 28th. And the result is brilliant. Michaelson’s new album is an ode to the hit Netflix show Stranger Things. In a statement, Ingrid said, “I took inspiration from the show and the characters and all these ideas started to come to me. Every song on the record includes a reference from the show, some more specific than others, but all of the themes are universal.” Ingrid explained the backstory of “Jealous” in a recent social media post.
The infectious “Missing You,” details the love triangle between Steve, Nancy and Jonathan. It’s perfectly crafted pop perfection.
On a personal note, I couldn’t be more proud of Ingrid. I met her many years ago, when Ingrid was in junior high; our best friends were sisters. Ingrid once told me at a McDonald’s, “I’m going to make it.” She said it with such conviction, I believed her. How cool is that? Proof that with drive and hard work anything is possible. That said, don’t give up on your dreams; no matter where you are in life. I’m 43 and only got that type confidence as an adult. But that’s OK. Sometimes we aren’t ready or have to overcome obstacles in order to reach our full potential. Anyway, its time to have fun, take risk and enjoy the sweet sounds of summer!
